Mature Drivers
As we age, changes in our strength, mobility and flexibility; vision and scanning skills; and the speed at which we can process visual information make us less comfortable and less in control behind the wheel.
Thankfully, the folks at AAA have produced this video and supplemental document called "Smart Features for Mature Drivers," a brochure designed to increase driver flexibility, a self-assessment for drivers over age 55, and a guide designed to help families and friends know when it is time to intervene. Drivers over age 50 can also take advantage of this online driver safety program from the AARP. |
In 2009, 33 million licensed drivers were over age 65 – a 20 percent increase from 1999. And by the year 2030, 70 million Americans in the U.S. will be over age 65 – and 85 to 90 percent of them will be licensed to drive.
